The Macael Awards

were created in 1985 with the aim of recognizing professionals who have stood out in a special way in architecture, crafts, and design nationally and internationally, and people, institutions and the media who have carried out unique actions for the benefit of the industry. Throughout 35 years of existence, the Macael Awards have positioned as the most important event in the natural stone sector at a national level, and they have acquired a important international accent.

Many personalities such as presidents of the Andalusian Government, ministers, and presidents of the Spanish Government of Spain have been at the event. Important architects like Sainz de Oiza, Rafael de la Hoz, Cesar Portela, Alberto Campo Baeza, Ethan Anthony, Joaquín Torres, and Daniel Libeskind. Relevant international institutions such as MIA (Marble Institute of America) or ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), and winners of various kinds, such as Carlos Herrera, Jorge Lorenzo, Karlos Arguiñano, David Bisbal… In addition, the Queen of Spain, Ms. Letizia Ortiz was the presenter of the Macael Awards.

COMMUNICATION AWARD

ELLE DECOR

The Jury grants the Communication Award to Elle Decoration magazine, belonging to Hearst Spain, for its media contribution as a key partner in Spain and, by extension, with its more than 20 international editions, worldwide. Its consistent editorial excellence, content quality, and commitment to innovation and sustainability are also an essential pillar in the dissemination of design trends, lifestyle, and architecture. It is the international reference publication among the interior design community and a showcase for leading brands in home furnishings, renovation, and architecture.

SUSTAINABILITY AWARD

ONE ONE ONE EAGLE STREET, BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA

The Jury awards the Sustainability Award to the One One One Eagle Street shopping center project, located in the city of Brisbane, Australia, a symbol of sustainable and innovative design by COX Architecture. The complex, which has a 6-star ecological rating and a carbon-neutral certification, required a renovation that would improve the columns and external facades with a product that met sustainability standards. The solution was the use of Dekton Zenith, a carbon-neutral product with excellent fire resistance (classified as A1 fire-rated), which has been installed using a ventilated facade system with mechanical anchoring.

INTERNATIONAL NORTH AMERICA AWARD

RAOLJI HOUSE, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES

The Jury awards the International North America Award upon Raolji House, a private mansion located in Florida, United States, which embodies the perfect fusion of craftsmanship and creative vision, creating a space where the beauty of natural stone shines. In its entirety, 1400 square meters of marble have been arranged, including prominent use of Blanco Macael marble, Crema Marfil, and Blue de Sabois in the flooring, with notable applications in mosaics, columns, kitchen and bathroom countertops, cladding, curved stairs, and balustrades. This architectural masterpiece is an impeccable execution and an inspiring example of design and construction.

INTERNATIONAL LATIN AMERICAN AWARD

WANDERS AND YOO, PANAMA CITY, PANAMÁ

The Jury grants the International Latin America Award to Wanders & Yoo, an innovative project conceived by the international brand Yoo in Panama City. The project takes the form of two magnificent apartment towers, and its use of natural stone finishes plays a significant starring role in the flooring, cladding, kitchen countertops, and bathrooms, both within the apartments and in the common areas. Durex Property Group, the project’s developer, has strategic alliances with recognized brands in the market such as Fendi, Philippe Starck, and Marcel Wanders, the renowned Dutch designer who injects his disruptive and creative vision into this project. Wanders & Yoo is the birth of a utopian world, a fusion of design and elegance, where diverse ideas coexist in perfect harmony.

INTERNATIONAL ASIA AWARD

DALVEY HAUS, SINGAPUR

The Jury awards the International Asia Award to the Dalvey Haus residential complex, located in Singapore. This high-end building, designed by the Eco ID architectural studio, has been recognized for its excellence in using cutting-edge surfaces. A total of 3500 square meters of innovative materials have been installed, including Dekton, Silestone, and Sensa in the Danae, Calypso, and Black Beauty shades, respectively. These materials have been used on its ventilated facade through panels, as well as in kitchen and bathroom countertops. Dalvey Haus stands out for its modern urban aesthetics and elegantly simple and thoughtful design schemes, creating a widespread sense of craftsmanship and quality in every element of the building.

INTERNATIONAL AFRICA AWARD

MONUMENT REHABILITATION, FOR THE MALABO CATHEDRAL AND RIABA CHURCH, EQUATORIAL GUINEA

The Jury grants the International Africa Award to Monument Rehabilitation S.L. for the rehabilitation project of the Malabo Cathedral, as the main work, and the Riaba Church, in Equatorial Guinea. In the neo-Gothic style Malabo Cathedral, the new stone portico stands out, as well as the rehabilitation of the altar table, tabernacle pedestal, and presbytery floor in Amarillo Almería and Verde Indio marble. The project includes the balustrade in Blanco Carrara marble, as well as the baseboard and column cladding in Xenia marble. On the other hand, in the Riaba Church, the altar table and ambo have been installed in Blanco Carrara marble.

INTERNATIONAL EUROPE AWARD

BUSINESSPARK OSNABRÜCK, GERMANY

The Jury awards the International Europe Award to the Businesspark Osnabrück project in Germany, which has incorporated 3000 square meters of ultra-compact Dekton stone in its Aeris and Kreta colors for the development of its ventilated facade using large format panels. The project, designed by the architectural firm Mas Architecture Netherlands, posed the challenge of including a low-maintenance and sustainable Surface, without sacrificing its aesthetic beauty due to inclement weather and the passage of time. The response to these requirements was the choice of Dekton panels.

NATIONAL AWARD

SANTA ANA BUILDING, GRANADA, SPAIN

The Jury grants the National Award to the Santa Ana Building, located in Plaza Nueva in the city of Granada, in recognition of its use of marbles from the Macael quarries. The building stands out for its masterful use of Blanco Macael marble, as well as the Zebrino Gold and Calacatta Luis Sánchez marbles in flooring, stairs, cladding, kitchen countertops, shower trays, and bathroom wall coverings. These materials elevate interior design to new heights in this complex, which also offers breathtaking views of the majestic Alhambra.

DESIGN AWARD

FRANCISCO SIMOES GOMES, SCULPTOR.

The Jury awards the Design Award to the renowned Portuguese sculptor Mr. Francisco Simoes Gomes for his work over 20 years, creating a series of sculptures in the Marble Region of Macael. These pieces were processed by scanning the artist’s original model and machined using CNC technology. At times, some sculptures were crafted by hand under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Francisco Simoes. The sculptures were created using both local materials, such as Blanco Macael marble, Grey, Yellow, and Anasol Macael, as well as imported stone.

BLANCO MACAEL MARBLE AWARD

REMODELING OF ALMERÍA SQUARE

The Jury grants the Award for the work in Blanco Macael marble to the remodeling project of Almería Square in the city of Macael, Almería. This renovation is a tribute to the Roman Empire and was entirely crafted using the precious ‘white gold.’ The design includes a set of solid steps leading to a magnificent space with six Corinthian columns, each nearly seven meters in height. It is followed by a Roman pool featuring the Chirivello, the first statue from the Roman Empire found in the area, which is currently housed in the Museum of Almería. Inside, a planetary mosaic is surrounded by 14 Tuscan-style columns, each three meters high. The main fountain, adorned with four Ionic columns, is presided over by Neptune—a massive, nearly three-meter-high sculpture- carved from a single piece of marble.

EXCELLENCE AWARD

PEDRO PEÑA INTERIOR DESIGN

The Jury awards the Excellence Award to Mr. Pedro Peña, a well-established interior designer, for his significant contributions to the fields of architecture, craftsmanship, and design, and his strong commitment to natural stone as the essence of his projects. With over forty years of experience in the industry, Peña is synonymous with exclusivity, innovation, and design excellence. His studio, with a wide range of prominent projects both nationally and internationally, represents a commitment to quality and sustainability and serves as an example of dedication and passion for design.
